READING ACROSS OUR FAITH COMMUNITIES

  • ​Reading Across Our Faith Communities demonstrated the significant need of a forum for our participants to express their experiences, perceptions, pain and growth regarding their own mental illness and that of their loved ones.

  • Reading Across Our Faith Communities started a much needed discussion within our church.  The attendees plan to meet again with church leadership to continue the discussion of how to help those with mental illness and their caregivers.

  • Reading Across Our Faith Communities was helpful from multiple perspectives. Firstly, the announcement in our bulletins "spoke" to individuals and families that our congregation was interested in supporting those living with mental health challenges. Secondly, during the sessions, participants and leaders, learned from and supported each other. And, most importantly, the discussions illuminated personal experiences and enriched our collective support to widen an inclusive spirit for all those living with mental illness.

  • Reading Troubled Minds together felt like a book club, where the experience of individuals sharing diverse perspectives not only strengthens bonds among the participants, but also fosters links with our various communities of faith.

  • I think our effort at Westminster brought together a set of people who care about our church's effort to minister to people whose lives are affected by serious and persistent mental illness.  We had some very worthwhile discussions and we hope to offer some Sunday School programs that will be of help in ministering to this need within our congregations in the months ahead.
