Mental Health Workshop for Clergy, Individuals, & Professionals

Featuring a nun/psychologist associated with Harvard Medical School and the 2012 NC Social Worker of the year from UNC-Chapel Hill, the Faith Connections on Mental Illness 3rd Annual Conference will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013 at St. Thomas More Church, 940 Carmichael St., Chapel Hill.   

Professional Continuing Education credits are available from Wake Area Health Education Center (AHEC).  Anyone who wants to learn more about mental illness and the community’s role in recovery is encouraged to attend.

A pioneer in therapy development, keynote speaker Sister Nancy Kehoe, RSCJ, MEd, Ph.D. will share her unique perspective on the place of faith and spirituality in treating mental illness. Special guest speaker Barbara (Bebe) Smith, MSW, LCSW will talk on “Mental Illness and Being Human.”

After lunch, which is included, three expert speakers will discuss “Dual Diagnosis: Alcohol/illegal drugs combined with mental illness,” “Youth & Addictive Behaviors: Including self-loathing, cutting, & eating disorders,” and “Crisis Response: Responding to violent, harmful, or out-of-control behavior.”

National Board Certified Counselors Credit (NBCC):  Wake AHEC is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP™) and a cosponsor of this event/program. Wake AHEC may award NBCC-approved clock hours for events or programs that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP maintains responsibility for the content of this event.  
  • Category A NC Psychology Credit: This program will provide 5.0 contact hours of continuing education for North Carolina Psychologists.  No partial credit will be awarded. 
  • Wake AHEC CEU(s) and Contact Hours: Wake AHEC will provide 0.5 CEU to participants upon completion of this activity.  No partial CEU credit will be given. 
  • Wake AHEC will provide up to 5.0 contact hours to participants.

Faith Connections on Mental Illness is presenting a day-long workshop to help faith communities engage, encourage, and serve persons who suffer from mental illness and those who care for them. Clergy, lay leaders, individuals, and professionals are encouraged to attend. "Faith, Mental Illness, and The Journey Toward Wholeness," will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013 at St. Thomas More, 940 Carmichael St., Chapel Hill, NC.  The keynote speaker, who is both a nun and a licensed psychologist, will discuss the role of faith and spirituality in treating mental illness. Four other mental health experts will also present.
