Faith Connections on Mental Illness, Inc. (FCMI) is sponsoring a Suicide Prevention Workshop & Community Panel Discussion on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024. The morning session, Soul Shop™ for Communities, will be led by the Rev. Dr. Gregory Hardy. In the afternoon, a panel of community experts will discuss mental health issues for veteran, student, and aging populations. The Durham HEART Program and NAMI NC will also be represented. The program will be held from 10 am to 3 pm at Emmanuel AME Church (2018 Riddle Road, Durham, NC). $25 registration includes lunch and materials. Scholarships available. Faith Connections on Mental Illness, Inc. (FCMI) is a Chapel Hill, NC interfaith non-profit whose mission is to connect across faiths in mental health ministry. Learn more about its programs, community connections, and resources at Home (fcmi-nc.org).
 
Soul Shop™ Movement offers a variety of interactive, evidence-based suicide prevention training programs. Soul Shop™ for Communities is a Community Awareness Skills Training designed to create a network of support for those who are impacted by suicide and suicidal desperation. Appropriate for teens and above, this program explores how we think and talk about suicide and discusses steps that can be taken to reduce risks. It includes an introduction to the CALL model for keeping a person with thoughts of suicide safe.
 
The workshop is great for parents, police, medical professionals, teachers, advocates, and any concerned community member who wants to learn more about the prevalence of suicidal desperation and be part of the solution.
